I'm excited to announce that I've been invited to show some of my work as part of a small group exhibit at Commonwheel Artists Co-op in Manitou Springs, Colorado. The show is being held from March 3 - April 3, 2023, and opens during the First Friday Art Walk in Manitou Springs. This will be the first time I've publicily exhibited my work in many years, so I'm a bit nervous but really looking forward to it, too!
Co-op staff selected a group of five artists for the March show from applications they'd received. The exhibit theme, Naturally Eclectic, represents the varying talents and tastes of the participants; it also quite thoroughly describes my own personality. After all, 'eclectic' can be defined as: Deriving ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources. Composed of elements drawn from various sources. Greek, eklektikos, choosing the best.
I'm including a small sample of the images I've selected for the show in this post, and I think
they offer a peek into the eclectic nature of what will be displayed. The two images above are part of a series I'm working on called At the Speed of Life. This series aims to highlight that we're often in such a hurry going about our daily activities that we can't see the details of the reality around us. However, it also serves to remind us that even when the details have been lost, we can still see beauty - if only we stop to observe it.
The in-person exhibit is a chance for me to 'stretch my wings' again by getting myself out of my comfort zone and being a little less introverted about my art. The 'eclectic' theme made it easier for me to curate the images I want to show, which are taken from a diverse range of sources but tied together with a warm color scheme.
The exhibit opening will be during the First Friday Art Walk from 5 to 9 pm, March 3, 2023, at Commonwheel Artists Co-op, 102 Canon Avenue, Manitou Springs, Colorado. I'm looking forward to seeing you there!
I'm also happy to announce that my image, Runic Reflections, received an Honorable Mention in the reFocus Black & White Single Image competition recently.
In fact, all three photos that I entered in four categories were Nominees. This was especially exciting because it's the first time I'd entered this particular international competition, and the quality of the photography entered is pretty phenomenal.
I select my photo art with the desire to help you beautify your home, office or commercial space. This in-person exhibit gives you an opportunity to see the images in a setting that will help you to envision one or more of them on your own wall. I'm looking forward to seeing you there!
Please investigate the pages of my website, www.DeniseDethlefsen.com, for additional ideas and inspiration. In addition, don't forget to look at the Purchase pages where you can see my images displayed in various room settings; this can be valuable to the process of visualization for your own decorative space and preferences. It's especially helpful since many of my photos lend themselves to groupings, and some would work well as diptychs or triptychs, but it's not always easy to "see" those options from the basic photo image.
